Guys I would like to share some interesting stories concerning the way Sherpa’s family lives and works in Dubai. Currently we are about 35 people from the Sherpa family. We are all working for one of the finest five star Hotels known as Jumeirah Group. I have been here in Dubai since 1999, working with world famous seven star Hotel Burj Al Arab, and I have achieved a lot from this prestigious company.

I started my career as a Security Officer, and today I am working as an Assistant Security Manager. During this period the Sherpas who have joined me in this great company have been increased since I first joined. In fact personally am happy with the number of Sherpas family members working with me. I can never say I am alone and missing my family because I am surrounded by them, even though we are far from our home.

Apart from working at various outlets or department with much stress and less time to rest, yet we managed to have a get together once in a while to have fun and share some views about working lives. Also we discussed about our family back home and how we can be of help to each other. We also discussed important issues, like future development that will help the family tree achieve their aim and means of a better living. We thought of the many ways in which we can help our families back home make a better life.

I don’t know how it came to us but we had a big discussion one day and most of the Sherpas were present at this “get together party”. We were talking about various issues and suddenly a very important topic came up for discussion. Amongst us most of the guys agreed and we all started talking about this issue, as we had many times before.

Do you know what the topic was? “Money Collection”. We discussed this and agreed that each of us would make a cash donation to our collections fund. With all the collection money we planned to help one of our own who had encountered problems and needed a helping hand. We also decided that if one of us were experiencing any serious issues we would be able to assist them with this money. So around August 2008 we started collecting money and finally we reached success! This collection continued until today. And we planned something different as follows:-

After much discussion on how we could use these funds, we decided to donate 11 computers to The Yalung School (Shree Boudha Buwani Secondary School) in Dolakha, Mali-2 in East Nepal. We have been able to collect around Fifteen thousand dirhams (RS 3 Lakh). We are planning in December 2009 to deliver these computers to the school. We all are busy collecting money from friends and relatives. Everyone is helping us to succeed with our mission. I would like to say Thank you to each and every person who helped us to succeed with our mission.

Recently we have many members joining us and they are excited and rushed to help with this project, and they loved our plan. It really feels great to see what my Team had done. We are also still planning to inform every Sherpa staying aboard so that they can support each other or give something back to their community, in the same way. I know if they come to know about our plan then surely they will want to join us.

We have many more plans coming up. I believe one day every single person will be interested and they will come up with different ideas and values. What we are doing is part of motivating people. And so, in future every single person will have a suggestion or thought on Village development and enriching others lives.

Very happy to inform you that we have Distributed 10 Computers and one printer to School on 22 February 2010. Couple of our member been there and it was a successful day. We even made computer fund and it will be ongoing forever.
